Press release: Carmabi Education develops new lesson material about iguanas
WILLEMSTAD – The Nature and Environmental Education (NME) department of Carmabi has launched a new lesson series about iguanas for secondary education.
The material was developed in collaboration with the Dutch Iguana Foundation, the Iguana Specialist Group, and Yoni Muggen – van Uden, who created the material as her graduation project at the teacher training program of the Dutch Aeres University of Applied Sciences.
The lesson series, ‘Nos Yuananan / Our Iguanas,’ focuses on the flora and fauna of Curaçao, with the iguana playing a key role. Iguanas are an essential part of the island’s ecosystem.
These reptiles make up a significant portion of the herbivore biomass and have a crucial impact on the ecosystem in many ways. The lesson series consists of three lessons, each with a different theme, and includes an additional in-depth lesson for each theme. Depending on the composition of the group and available time, teachers can combine the modules. The material is aligned with the educational standards for secondary education, targeting both the lower (havo and vwo) and upper levels (vsbo-tkl).
All educational material from Carmabi Education is designed to meet the learning objectives within the curriculum. While it incorporates local subjects relevant to students' experiences, it also prepares them for the national standards used in central exams.
This new lesson series, along with other educational materials, is available for free download on the Carmabi website (www.carmabi.org). With this initiative, Carmabi continues to support primary and secondary education by providing engaging local lesson material.
