Press release: Celebrate Dia di Sabaneta on Sunday, September 29, at Christoffelpark

WILLEMSTAD – Christoffel National Park invites you to a special edition of Dia di Sabaneta, held on Sunday, September 29, in conjunction with the celebration of Siman di Kultura. The event highlights the rich history, culture, and nature of the park, offering a diverse program for the entire family.

Program highlights:

Start your day with a hike

Visitors can begin the day by climbing the Christoffelberg between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Due to the current heat, we recommend starting early, bringing plenty of water (at least 2 liters), and wearing suitable protective clothing.

Historical tours and activities for children

At 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM, and 4:00 PM, historical tours will take place at the Savonet Museum, providing insights into the unique history of the area. The tour lasts 45 minutes and costs NAF 7.50 per person.

Starting at 9:00 AM, children can join a scavenger hunt through the park, organized by Carmabi’s Nature and Environmental Education (NME) department. This activity promises fun for all ages.

Local market and cultural performances

At 10:00 AM, the local market opens, showcasing handmade products and local delicacies. Simultaneously, live music kicks off with a Ka’i Orgel performance. The event’s official opening ceremony begins at 11:00 AM, with Minister Sithree van Heydoorn (Education, Culture, and Science) attending to inaugurate the festivities.

From 11:00 AM onward, children’s activities such as a bouncer and face painting will be available. Between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM, a cultural program will feature a historical presentation of Savonet by Echi Cijntje, a performance by Grupo Kòmber, Tipiko San Mango, and music by DJ Jerson.

Practical information

Dia di Sabaneta starts at 6:00 AM and ends at 6:00 PM. Entry to the park is free all day (except for the mountain). The historical tour at the Savonet Museum costs NAF 7.50. The Jeep Safari Tour is available for NAF 10 per person.
