Progress Reports

At Carmabi, transparency and knowledge sharing are key to our mission. Through our quarterly Progress Reports, we provide detailed insights into our ongoing efforts in marine and terrestrial research, environmental education, park management, and nature conservation on Curaçao. These reports highlight key achievements, challenges, and developments across our organization—keeping our partners, stakeholders, and the wider community informed and engaged.

By sharing our progress, we aim to build bridges between science, society, and policy—because we can only protect what we know.

Education Department

Inspiring the next generation to care for nature.

At Carmabi’s Education Department, we believe that awareness is the first step toward conservation. Every year, we engage thousands of students, teachers, and families through hands-on learning experiences in our national parks, marine environments, and classrooms.

From school excursions and nature-based lessons to teacher training and educational materials, our programs are designed to connect people—especially youth—with the unique biodiversity of Curaçao. By fostering curiosity and understanding, we help build a future generation that values and protects our natural environment.

Park Management

Protecting nature through daily care and long-term vision.

Carmabi manages several of Curaçao’s most important natural areas, including Christoffel National Park, Shete Boka National Park, and the Curaçao Rif Mangrove Park. Our Park Management team is responsible for the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of these unique ecosystems.

Through careful planning, maintenance, ecological monitoring, and visitor engagement, we ensure that these parks remain safe, accessible, and ecologically healthy. We work closely with local communities, scientists, and policymakers to balance conservation with education, recreation, and research.

Marine Research

Science for a thriving ocean.

Carmabi’s Marine Research Department is internationally recognized for its groundbreaking work on coral reefs and marine ecosystems in the southern Caribbean. Our researchers study coral biology, reef restoration, fish populations, water quality, and the effects of climate change—generating vital knowledge to protect the ocean.

With over 70 years of experience and a well-equipped marine lab, Carmabi welcomes scientists from around the world to collaborate, conduct fieldwork, and publish research that supports marine conservation both locally and globally.

Terrestrial Research

Understanding Curaçao’s land to protect its future.

Carmabi’s Terrestrial Research Department focuses on the study and conservation of Curaçao’s unique terrestrial ecosystems, including its native forests, limestone hills, caves, and endemic species. Our researchers monitor biodiversity, track ecological changes, and investigate the impacts of human activity, climate change, and invasive species.

This scientific knowledge supports sustainable land management, guides conservation policy, and strengthens education and public awareness. From the iconic Curaçao white-tailed deer to native plant species, we aim to protect the island’s rich natural heritage.
