Vacancy: Field Researcher – Advisory & Consultancy Department
CARMABI’s Advisory & Consultancy Department is looking for a motivated Field Researcher to support ecological research and environmental consultancy projects on Curaçao. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, values accuracy, and wants to contribute to the protection and sustainable management of our island’s natural environment.
About the Role
As a Field Researcher, you support CARMABI’s work in both Research & Consultancy and Terrestrial Ecological Research. You will collaborate closely with our biologists and project teams, collecting essential field data and assisting in a broad range of ecological surveys.
You report directly to the Head of the Advisory & Consultancy Department.
Key Responsibilities
Ecological Fieldwork & Research
- Conduct terrestrial field surveys such as bird monitoring, vegetation assessments, habitat mapping and other biodiversity studies.
- Assist with ecological data collection, field preparations and equipment handling.
- Contribute to long-term monitoring programs and terrestrial research projects.
Consultancy Assignments
- Support environmental consultancy projects by performing field assessments according to defined quality standards.
- Gather accurate on-site data for impact studies, environmental advice and ecological evaluations.
Native Plant Nursery
- Assist in the maintenance and daily care of the native plant nursery.
- Support restoration and reforestation activities involving native species.
General Tasks
- Participate in department meetings and prepare relevant discussion points.
- Follow internal procedures and apply quality and safety standards in all field activities.
- Carry out additional tasks aligned with the needs of the department or organization.
- Engage in professional development and training opportunities relevant to the role.
Qualifications & Skills
- HBO-level education.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Clear affinity with fieldwork and outdoor environments.
- Flexible and willing to work irregular hours when needed.
- Able to handle physically demanding work and varying field conditions.
- Good command of English and Dutch; Papiamentu is an advantage (or willingness to learn).
- Willingness to pursue additional training in relevant ecological or technical fields.
- Knowledge of Curaçao’s native flora and fauna is an asset.
