Willemstad – The Carmabi Foundation and Veterinary Centers Curaçao have launched a special collaboration to raise awareness among grade 5 and 6 students in primary education about the importance of proper animal care. The new educational project centers around a cheerful storybook about a little dog named Snoop Doggy, who playfully shows that a pet is not a toy but a living being that needs love, attention, and care.

“Education about pets is the perfect bridge toward respect for all animals and nature,” says Cor Hameete of Carmabi Education. “When children understand that a dog or cat needs care and protection, they also start to realize that all animals have the right to a safe living environment.”

In practice, this means that classroom sets of the bilingual (Dutch–Papiamentu) storybook will be made available to schools. Teachers can also download additional materials, such as coloring pages. In addition, veterinarians from the Veterinary Center Curaçao will use the booklets in their practice to inform families, while Carmabi guides will visit schools to give guest lessons centered around Snoop Doggy.

The project is made possible with the support of the Rotary Club Willemstad, for which both organizations are deeply grateful.

“With Snoop Doggy, we are investing in a future where animals are treated with respect, and we’re proud to now bring that message into schools as well,” says veterinarian Margot Hack.

The storybook and accompanying educational materials are also available at https://www.carmabi.org/education-in-the-classroom.
